About
When Leah moved from Dallas to Colorado, she bought a camera intending to photograph bighorn sheep and moose, only to find the winter landscape quiet and challenging. Instead, she looked up and found her first inspiration in the local bald eagles. The dramatic contrast of wildlife against ice and snow instantly clicked with her love for historic realism, echoing the quiet, powerful mood of Gustave Courbet’s Fox in the Snow.
Since that first winter, Leah has expanded her focus well beyond those riverbanks, spending her time exploring Colorado’s local parks, open spaces, and national reserves. In doing so, she has immersed herself in learning about regional bird species and has captured the grand alpine mammals she originally sought—from bison and mountain goats to moose.
Leah’s photography serves a dual purpose: documenting the authentic, everyday narratives of these animals and scouting for the perfect compositions to render via oil painting.
Outside of her artistic pursuits, Leah has spent more than ten years working as a software engineer. She shares her home with her wife, Melissa, and their three cats: Sammy, Nutmeg, and Zelda.
